An Extension lecture on the theme of " Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice- A School Practice" was organized by Chandigarh College of Education on 24 th of October, 2017. Mrs. Harpreet Kaur, Principal, Shri Guru Harkrishan Model School, Sector, 38, Chd was the guest for the lecture. Mrs. Harpreet initiated her talk focussed on the current trends of contemporary schools. She said that there can bee seen a great shift from discipline based approach to a problem based approach in the schools now. She also apprised of the embedded curriculum with an addition of value education and concepts of gender sensitivity. She also brought forth the changing socio-political climate where teachers have to face various challenges such as facing highly aggressive parents, constant monitoring through CCTV, seeking for alternatives to punishment, students coming from nuclear families and broken families. Mrs. Harpreet elucidated using real classroom examples to acquaint the prospective teachers with the ground realirelationship,s. She also made B.Ed students aware of no touch policy where teachers are not allowed to indulge in corporal punishment. She also explained the act of right to education which permits the inclusion of children with special needs. She urged that teachers of nowadays must focus more on developing skills in their students than a mere content. She also discussed the certain dos and don'ts for making their job profile stronger. She also shared many soft skills that every teacher must possess to reflect commitment, social etiquettes, positive attitude in her personality. She also shed light on some of the issues faced by teachers such as translation of curriculum within the stipulated frame of time, student result, communication with parents,issues with dress code, teacher taught relationship, finding proper resources, handling disruptive behaviour, adapting class activites, establishing autteachers Towards the end , Mrs. Harpreet emphasized on preparing teachers to face 21st century challenges and develop life skills in their students. Dr. Sneh Bnasal proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs. Harpreet for sharing her valuable views with the students.
