‘13th Athletic Meet 2018’ was declared open on 16th March, 2018 at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran by the Chief Guest Ms. Avneet Sidhu, DSP, Punjab and Arjuna Awardee accompanied by S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC. S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC, Dr. PN Harisheekesha, Campus Dir. CGC, all the Principals and HODs of the departments. The sports meet commenced with the march past performed by the students and oath taking ceremony for playing games with the spirit of sportsmanship. Ms. Avneet Sidhu took the salute from the march past and declared the Athletic Meet open. Appreciating the spirit of sportsmanship in the students, Ms. Avneet said, “A healthy nation is always a wealthy nation. Therefore, it is necessary to put emphasis on sports.” S. Satnam Singh Sandhu said that Sports and games impart a sense of discipline, fellow-feeling and togetherness. The various events such as 100 m, 200 m Race, Relay Race, Chatti Race, Hurdle Race, Slow Cycling, Three legged Race, Kho-Kho, Tug of War, Shot Put, Discus Throw and Javelin Throw. The sports ground, abounded with exuberant students, wore the garb of fun, frolic and excitement. The students entertained the guests with their energetic performance of Aerobics on the prize distribution ceremony. The second day of the Athletic Meet received Mr. Ashish Kapoor, AIG, Punjab Police, Punjab as chief guest and Ms. Prabhjot Kaur Bajwa, International Gymnast for the prize distribution ceremony accompanied by the honorable management and the esteemed principals. Speaking on this occasion, S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC, Landran expressed his views, “I am very proud to say that B.Ed. department is on the top of all the other departments of Chandigarh Group of Colleges. I am happy to see all the students as well as staff working with full zeal and energy. This is reminding me of my college days because I was also an athlete during my college time. I used to participate in 100 meters race, a hockey player and state level champion of Javelin Throw.” Mr. Ashish expressed that with proper training in sports and games, students become active, sportive, dashing, daring and adventurous. Ms. Prabhjot said that the discipline and decorum learnt through sports enable one capable of meeting the challenges in future life. The Athletic meet concluded with a vote of thanks and presentation of memento to the Chief Guest.
