Chandigarh College of Education, Landranprovides Certificate course in Inclusive Education, a part time course which is affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala. Certificate in Inclusive Education is intended primarily for teachers who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in the area of education of children with special needs
Inclusive education” means a system of education wherein students with and without disability learn together and the system of teaching and learning is suitably adapted to meet the learning needs of different types of students with disabilities. With the enactment of RPWD Act, 2016 and RTE (2012), the school shall provide free and compulsory education till the age of 18 years to Children with disabilities. As per the Act, the schools shall make accommodation and modification in curriculum and provide barrier free environment to provide education to children with disabilities. No school can deny admission on the basis of disability or discrimination. The school authorities and teachers shall be equipped to deal with the needs of these children as they become a part of the regular classrooms and study together. Unless and until teachers are not trained and have understanding of the concept of inclusive education and its relevance, their attitudecan never be changed and these children remain isolated from the mainstream education.This 6-month Certification course in Inclusive Education is designed specifically to train potential candidates to teach children with a wide range of disabilities, including those with various degrees of intellectual, physical, behavioural, learning disabilities and sensory problems, or a combination of these. This course will help the educators to meet the changing roles and expectations of the schools from their teachers.It’s a cross disability course about children with disabilities only. The candidate will get better job opportunities as the schools are looking for such teachers (as per CBSE, Various other boards and education department guidelines).The course will provide hand on experiences to the candidates regarding working in an inclusive set up having children with special needs. The course will be comprised of following sessions: 1.Understanding various disabilities along with its screening and identification –Learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Physical disabilities, Sensory disabilities, Intellectual disabilities, Visual impairment, Hearing impairment 2.Preparing lesson plans and IEPs for children with disabilities 3.Forming Inclusive Cell in schools 4.Role of various professionals in inclusive set upCase studies of CwDs, lesson plan format, Inclusive school all will be part of the practical work.
The duration of the course is six months and the registration is being done twice ayear-June to December and January to June. Registration for July batch is opened from May month onwards and for January session from November month.
A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the Certificate Programme in Inclusive education provided the candidate has done/ Pursuing any teacher training course (D.El.Ed. , B.Ed., M.Ed., M.A (Education) or any recognized teacher training programme.
English / Hindi / Punjabi will be used as the medium of Instruction and Examination through out the course. Candidates are permitted to write in English / Hindi / Punjabi.
For Certified Teachers with a Bachelor of Education
After completing the course, it will not only develop knowledge in the candidates regarding accommodating children with special needs (Learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, children with behavioural problems, physically handicapped, Intellectual disability and other disabilities) but also develop skills and attitude to make them a part of normal classrooms.
