Chandigarh College of Education conducted an extension lecture on Learning Styles and Experiential Learning by Ms.Vega Sharma (Educational Consultant) on 18th of Sep. 2018. Ms. Vega apprised the students on the changed role of the teachers from the status of “ Guru Brahma" to that of a facilitator. She shared that the present times demand a shift from role learning to experiential learning . She also added that first teacher of today's learner is Google which poses a greater threat to the existing role of the teachers. She exhorted the present generation teachers to provide their students with an experiential learning. Activity sessions were carried out in which students were asked to discover their preferred learning styles with the help of a questionnaire. There are primarily four types of learners such as visual , auditory , aesthetic and Reading and Writing learners . She also discussed the difference between knowledge and information along with expressing her concern on the increasing redundancy of teachers in wake of abundant information available online. She urged that in order to make lessons interactive and interesting teachers must incorporate different activities in their classes. To create such learning , one needs to be prepared as the role of teacher is that of a facilitator and not of a preacher. She concluded the lecture expressing that dedicated involvement is necessary for the outcome of a successful experiential learning. Dr.Sneh Bansal Principal, CCE expressed her gratitude to Ms. Vega Sharma for conducting an interactive session with the students informing them on different learning styles and their implication in the classrooms .
